Whenever a major prize-giving event draws close, one notices a demand for the addition additional classifications to acknowledge unsung work and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.
Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a passionate advocate's mission. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request stands as crucial above others. Here's the proposal: There should be an award type for logic-based games.
Categorizing Game Types
Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; it remains highly personal, and inevitably start arguments and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains a necessary evil in the world of video games, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them one unified medium.
To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Existing Game Classification System
The major gaming awards offer these genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.
Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No suitable classification appears to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. What category would fit them within current classifications? Nowhere, that’s where.
Acknowledgment Issues
Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
- A different innovative game received no nominations in 2019
- A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment in 2021
- Just some brain-teasers barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications
Importance of Logic Titles
These are often compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for an extended period.
The famous puzzle experience competes with famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. One could readily select five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.
To emphasize again, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators function at the challenging frontier interactive creation, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
